MAHAAN MOVIE REVIEW

Mahaan begins with a quote from Gandhi that says ‘ freedom is not worth having if it doesn’t include the freedom to make mistakes.  Mahaan (Chiyaan Vikram) Follows The Turbulent Journey Of A Middle-Aged Simple Man, Who Later Becomes A Pride Billionaire, Followed By Unexpected Haywire Challenges He Starts To Face Soon After. The movie takes unexpected twists and turns later.

Vikram is amazing in this movie and it has been a while that I have seen him have so much fun with a role, this feels like a comeback for the actor, the way he switches from a mild-mannered college professor to a father dealing with the consequences of his past remind you why he is considered to one of the best actors in the country. He is a delight to watch, making our movie-watching experience enjoyable with his charismatic screen presence. The majority of Mahaan is actually Vikram’s one-man show and he steals it with ease. A Good Comeback For Chiyaan Vikram After 3 Years Loved his PerformanceWhich Travel 20 Years (1996-2016) To Show His Character Transformation and how does a naive school teacher turn into a badass billionaire.  Dhruv Vikram on the other side a complete psychotic performance from him and he proves what he is capable of. Second half he dominates Chiyaan Vikram through his acting and attitude. Stunner performance from both Vikram and Dhruv Vikram. Bobby Simha was too good in his role and shares a good friendship bond with Vikram. In one scene where Bobby Simha and Chiyaan Vikram emotionally charged conversation was one of the most well-written and powerful performances between them, I have seen along.

Even though the story is not new but Karthik Subbaraj delivers it in a unique manner. Karthik makes use of the characters very well and characterization was too good for each one but for Simran, it felt weak. First Half started slowly and took his own time to get in the story and it was all rise of Chiyaan Vikram in the movie and from the bang on interval block. The second half was terrific and fully emotionally charged sequences between Vikram and Dhruv Vikram. Mahaan had some power-packed action sequences. It’s been so long seeing Vikram in powerful raw action sequences and it was executed brilliantly. Karthik Subbaraj is someone who has been strong with dialogues and with Mahaan, he puts out some sensible and thought-provoking lines. Even though the movie had some up and downs here there due to the run time. The first half looked a bit slow but the second half was too good because of the solid performances. Mahaan does something very interesting with its premise and deals with how too much idealism and belief in other people’s vision for a better world tends to make people less human and unkind and how in the long run that tends to do more harm than go. Even though the performance was on the point you get a feel of there is something not right. Bitter truth is that after ‘Petta’ Karthik’s craft misses his touch.

On the technical side, Santhosh Narayanan’s song was not on point in this movie even though the background score only elevates the scene in some places, and Sana’s not the best one. Shreyas Krishna’s cinematography was top-notch and stunning. The framing and lighting set the movie mood perfectly. Vivek Harshan’s editing was neat and could have trimmed some portions to make it engaging.

A different Attempt from Chiyaan Vikram and Kartik Subbaraj  which worked out really well compared to their previous
